GATE GAMES – ‘GIOCHI DELLE PORTE’
(A 3-day celebration; Friday, Saturday and Sunday, during the last week of September. The ancient races are re-enacted: donkey races with an Auriga and brakeman, catapult shooting, archery and the last and most exciting race is the contemporary bareback cavalcade of four donkeys. Every year there’s a beautiful Palio a competition between the four gates of San Donato, San Benedetto, San Facondino and San Martino.
The historic procession on Holy Friday: an impressive procession that evokes the passion of Jesus according to the medieval tradition to the sound of the “batti strangola”, an ancient musical instrument which is almost extinct, along with a group of people dressed in cloaks announcing the start of the procession which marches along the torch light paths, representing the most significant and cruel moments of the capture of Jesus, his trial, the Ascent to Calvary and the crucifixion.

OCTOBER 4 – ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI FESTIVAL
A national holiday in honor of St. Francis Patron of Italy.
The Calendimaggio takes place every year during the week of May 1st, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The city of Assisi is divided into 2 parts, the upper and lower part, competing for the conquest of the Palio. This is a challenge to the sound of dancing, singing and dramatic representations.
SPELLO

THE FLOWER SHOW OF SPELLO
A manifestation that takes place every year on the occasion of the feast of Corpus Christi (Ninth Sunday after Easter).
The ‘flower painters’ work the entire night to make floral carpets and paintings that meander through the streets of the historic center.
The result is a path of about 1,5 km characterized by the alternation of over 60 different floral compositions.

FESTIVAL OF THE TWO WORLDS
Spoleto Festival: (June 27 – July 13) The Festival of the Two Worlds of Spoleto is one of the most enduring and important festivals of Umbria, as well as an event of global resonance and for a long time the only one of its kind in Italy.
MONTEFALCO

WINE HARVEST FESTIVAL
On September 21st floats parade through the streets of the historic center.
Guided tastings by expert sommeliers with large tasting stands of the best vintages of Sagrantino.
August Montefalchese from August 1st to 19th taverns throughout the town are open and one may taste the typical dishes of the local cuisine accompanied by the red wine of Monte Falco from the renowned Sagrantino.
The Fuga del Bove involves the four quarters of the town St. Augustine, St. Bartholomew, St. Fortunato and St. Francis in races and shows that will animate the Piazza Certame of colors and create an atmosphere typical of the early Renaissance.

EUROCHOCOLATE
Eurochocolate is the most awaited event for the chocolate cravers, it is one of the most important events for the city of Perugia and for chocolate lovers. It takes place from October 16th to 25th and there are many stands that offer tastings, gadgets and special prices on their products, all in theme with the feast! Finger licking good!

PROCESSION OF THE “ENLIGHTENED”
On January 27th, a procession takes place along the perimeter of the city walls, which have remained unchanged for over eight centuries, in honor of the bishop-martyr St. Emiliano, protector of the city. January 28th is the Feast of the Patron St. Emiliano.
“Autumn Appointment” – Palio dei Terzieri.
An exciting race among the youth of the three quarters, which divide the village, with scenes of medieval life.

GUBBIO

FESTA DEI CERI
The Festa dei Ceri is held in Gubbio on May 15th every year and consists of a race transporting three totems (CERI) crowned by the statues of Saints: St. Ubaldo (patron saint of Gubbio), St. George and St. Anthony Abate. It is one of the most ancient folklore events in Italy, and it is not to be confused with a historical commemoration. In fact, it is an event that is repeated annually and uninterruptedly since 1160. The feast, still today plays an important role, both from the social point of view as well as the cultural one for the Community Eugubina. It is lived with a great commitment by all citizens and is characterized by strong passions and emotions which express values and contradictions: they represent importance and popularity, even at regional level, of manifestation that since 1973 the Three Ceri represent the symbol of the Region of Umbria and are stylized in its’ banner and in its’ Official Flag.

THE “DAYS OF THE BARTOCCIO”
Starting from January 22nd until February 14th takes place ‘The Days of the Bartoccio’, inside the Perugia Carnival, with a rich program of events, shows, concerts, exhibitions, dances, songs, bartocciate,
conferences, puppet show and many surprises organized by the “Company of Bartoccio”.
